TECDI, a Community Based Organization founded in August 2005, in Kasaala, Kitui County, Kenya, 250km southeast of Nairobi. TECDI strives to empower children with education. The main aim of the project is to educate orphans and other vulnerable children from Kasaala. These are children from unprivileged families, who are very likely to drop out of the schools; because their parents or relatives cannot afford to pay the required fees for high school, college and university education. The long-term vision of TECDI is to use education as a strategy to address the high poverty prevalent in Kasaala. TECDI supports beneficiaries who choose degrees in education, clinical medicine, engineering, commerce, nursing, architecture, law, pharmacy, information technology, quantity survey, veterinary medicine and computer science. These courses give the graduates high chances of being employed or start their own business. TECDI offers 3 different types of education sponsorship awards to children in need:

  • Gold – for college and university education (US$ 700/year)
  • Silver – for high school education (US$ 500/year)
  • Bronze – for polytechnic/vocational training (US$ 250/year).

TECDI envisions to educate 100 university graduate students by 2040. On top of this, TECDI also support the community by building schools and setting up agriculture and livestock activities.
